One Day is the story of Emma and Dexter, whose friendship turned love goes through an extremely twisted course of life. Each chapter in the book describes their lives on the 15th of July, St. Swithin's Day, for 20 years.

Summary of the Book

Emma and Dexter spend the night following their graduation day talking about their lives when they would turn 40. They do not get romantically involved until fate brings them together again, after a series of their futile attempts at being together. And when they get married, Emma wishes to have a child, but their attempts end up failing, leaving them frustrated. And on their anniversary of the day they got together, Emma and Dexter go to see a house they want to live in. Unfortunately, Emma meets with a bike accident and passes away! Dexter is left in irrevocable despair. How will he ever cope up from the appalling incident that fate cruelly throws at him?

David Nicholls was born in Hampshire. He is a famous novelist and screenwriter. He holds a B.A. degree in Drama and English, and has trained as an actor at New York’s American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Some of his other notable novels are Starter for Ten and The Understudy.
