  • Description
A modern cult classic, a major motion picture and a timeless bestseller, The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a deeply affecting coming-of-age story. Charlie is not the biggest geek in high school, but he's by no means popular. Shy, introspective, intelligent beyond his years, caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it, Charlie is attempting to navigate through the uncharted territory of high school. The world of first dates and mixed tapes, family dramas and new friends. The world of sex, drugs, and music - when all one requires to feel infinite is that perfect song on that perfect drive. Standing on the fringes of life Charlie has a unique perspective of the world around him, but there comes a time to stop being a wallflower and see what it looks like from the dance floor. This haunting novel about the dilemma of passivity vs. passion has become a modern classic. Charlie's letters are singular and unique, hilarious and devastating and through Charlie, Stephen Chbosky has created a deeply affecting story that will spirit you back to those wild and poignant roller coaster days known as growing up. 'Chobsky captures adolescent angst, confusion and joy... Compelling.' Booklist 'This wistful, sensitive novel perfectly captures the uncertainty and excitement of adolescence, and has become a deserving modern classic.' Scottish Book Trust 'A coming-of-age tale in the tradition of THE CATCHER IN THE RYE and A SEPARATE PEACE... [Chbosky's] poignant reflections on life, love and friendship are often inspirational and always beautifully written.' USA Today

Okaaaay-ish... Almost as good as the movie.

I'm gonna be honest here and tell you, I bought this book after seeing the movie in a fit of Emma Watson obsession. .
As always needless to say, the book was better than the movie. But its not a book you need to buy, a torrented pdf would work too. I felt this edition was slightly overpriced for what i got, a story about an insecure teen, almost in line with 'A Cather in the Rye'.
All in all not a bad book to own, a good complementary to the movie, a great book to gift someone who likes th...

    Go ahead and read it!

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is beautiful. It's a book I'm sure even the people who aren't into reading much will enjoy. Written amazingly, it just flows calmly with you as you turn the pages, it puts wonderful thoughts into your head without any struggle, it becomes a part of you and then when it ends you just want more of it. Recommend it to just everyone.

One of the best books I read in 2013.

I dont quite read fiction but the book and movie are very honest versions of the story that the author wanted to tell. The story is set in a time just before computers and internet and paints a picture of a world where music still held a tremendous impact on teenagers. Kids took pride in the music that they discovered and identified with. The music only is a glue for a much deeper coming of age story in the first person narrative which I personally find very engaging.
